Professional Stages – main activities, successes or projects

Following her studies of commerce at university and subsequent training as a forwarder with Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) at the company’s former head office in Hamburg Sabine Wetzel became responsible for managing exports to France. Within a few months she had been offered and accepted a position at the head office Benelux, in Rotterdam. The Rotterdam office of K&N is of major significance within the organization, being the hub for worldwide project cargo shipments and at the same time, being most important sea freight office in Europe. Ms Wetzel led the department Export Sea Freight Far East successfully before moving on to becoming responsible for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) including worldwide project cargo shipments.

In 1981, she was approached by Danzas Germany to open the first Danzas office in the Netherlands. This was a major career challenge with the main focus of the operation being contract logistics, with particular emphasis on the European tank container logistics sector.

Caused of marriage she moved to Munich and found immediate employment with K+N again. She led her own Business Unit with a team of specialists who were responsible for the worldwide air freight business of the Siemens group.

The birth of three children led to a brief interruption in her career and on her return to work she decided that the time was ripe for her to become a consultant to the Forwarding industry rather than work directly as a Forwarder herself. From 1989 she successfully developed her business in the area of international Executive Search and Business Development with a special focus on Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe which accelerated after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

In 1997, following the liberalisation of the European telecommunication market, she worked for a number of Swiss telecom companies as Director of Marketing & Sales/Director HR & Admin. New ideas, new business models were required to market telecommunication services in the new free market environment and Wetzel was well equipped to deliver.

After some years of developing these businesses and with active involvement in the  re-organisation of the industry itself,  she decided to return to the consulting and logistics world. She re-established contact with former business partners and found that they were now part of the Experts for Experts Network. In January 2005 she joined Meneghin & Partner.in Switzerland, a founding member of the Experts for Experts Network. Her work  focuses on research and selecting suitable managerial candidates in the transport and logistics industry for the company’s clients. Her previous experience within the forwarding industry and the contacts gained over many years have proved invaluable in this new position. She becomes a partner in Meneghin & Partner from September 1st 2009.
