Professional Stages – main activities, successes or projects

Shortly after graduation from an apprenticeship as freight forwarding agent at former Jacky Maeder & Co. in Basel, Urs Hug was sent to the company's branch office in Hong Kong as Management Trainee. In 1979, in a fast-paced environment, he was assigned the over-all responsibility of the agency with its more than 60 staff members. In addition to the management of the agency and caring for the main business from/ to Switzerland and Europe, the main focus was on the development and expansion of the traffic with the USA, Australia and South Africa. In 1983 Urs Hug returned to Switzerland, linked with the take over of the over-all responsibility of Jacky Maeder Basel.

In 1988 Urs Hug took over the Management of the Swiss activities of the Ziegler Group. In addition to managing BLG; the main Ziegler company in Switzerland, his activities at that time included the conception and development of the first private parcel service in Switzerland. In 1992 General Parcel was an instant success. His concept as well as the constant focusing on goal # 1, namely to reward the shareholders for their trust and patience with decent returns on investments made Urs Hug at time the “Mr Parcel of Switzerland”.

The selling of the parcel business to a globally active competitor marked the time for a change of direction in Urs Hug's career. With his participation at Meneghin & Partner and the entry into the fascinating and diversified consulting business, Urs Hug found his ideal job where his experience of more than 20 years of operational activities in the business are key to success.

During his career, Urs Hug has regularly furthered his education. Among other things, he achieved the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration. As representative of the Ziegler Group and of the VBSL (Association of Forwarding Logisticians Basel) he worked on many board of directors (e.g. EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg) and committees (e.g. the Transport Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Basel). As President of the VBSL for many years, Urs Hug has brought about and co-hosted substantial changes within the Association.

Today, Urs Hug's main focus lies on Strategy Consulting and multinational Executive Search mandates.
